This hair drying trend may sound a bit silly, but it’s the curly girl secret to obtaining frizz-free curls. Forget about picking up that diffuser; skip heat completely with this easy, fuss-free alternative to drying curls without the unwanted static. Some hair may need that little bit of friction however, especially if you naturally lack voluminous curls and need that extra bounce, so do what you see fit to achieve your desired style.
Hair plopping is simply placing your wet, product coated hair atop of your head after washing and loosely wrapped up with a t-shirt (t-shirts are universally used by CG rather than a towel, which promotes frizz) and left to dry naturally. The curls will scrunch and shrink themselves whilst the t-shirt absorbs the water, drying a lot faster than traditional air-drying. Hair has the tendency to become frizzy the more you touch it, and plopping is a great alternative for hassle-free wash days, plus it can create flawless wash-and-go definition and ultimately, it locks in the hydrating and curl defining products you’ve applied prior to the drying process.
All you have to do is arm yourself with an oversized t-shirt, one you’ve got lying around the house. Tip your head upside down and place your hair in the centre of the t-shirt, next wrap the arms around your head and tie together at the front or back of your head – voila, easy as that!
Once you feel your hair has dried, shake hair and shape to your desired style. If you use styling products like gel or mousse that create a crunchy cast around your curls, just scrunch out with your hands to reveal the enhanced curl definition.
